The Hyphen repertory program presented at the Mahney Center this October will feature six dancers and five interdisciplinary collaborators in four dynamic works:
Cabeen’s 2010 Composites, a tour de force solo performance by Cabeen created in collaboration with award winning author Jay McAleer and composer Julian Martlew.
Excerpts from Cabeen’s 2011 evening-length work, Into the Void, inspired by visual artist Yves Klein, combines drag performance, precise choreography and elaborate costumes with five accomplished performers including the Bessie Award winning dancer Germaul Barnes.
5 Windows: On Dance and Oud, first performed in 2012, features the live performance of Oud virtuoso Kane Mathis and dancer Kathryn MacLellan in a duet that celebrates the love between an artist and their muse.
Break Down will have its world premiere at the Mahaney Center. In this new work four female dancers and one electronic musician share intimate, embodied journeys that dance between injury and the inspiration that can arise from being broken down.
